National Mainstreet conference

Delegates from across Australia and New Zealand will be converging on Melbourne for the 2004 Mainstreet Conference being held at the Grand Hyatt from 26–29 September. Co chairs, Councillor Claude Ullin from the City of Stonnington and Matthew Gould Manager of the Victorian Government’s StreetLife Program said the conference will provide delegates with an insight into the latest development trends and revitalisation strategies behind Mainstreet communities, towns and city centres.

“With a major line up of key industry experts including Dr Peter Kenyon from the Bank of I.D.E.A.S and Cathy Coleman Downtown Norfolk Council, USA, the conference promises to deliver delegates with the most up to date issues, trends and solutions that are transforming Mainstreets across the nation and the Trans Tasman.

“Delegates will experience a comprehensive program of workshops and presentations covering a broad range of themes,” said Councillor Ullin. “These will include strategic approaches to Mainstreet revitalisation, community, business and government partnerships, planning for growth and sustainability, marketing, events, tourism and performance measurement. Delegates will certainly be exposed to a host of practical and informative knowledge from industry experts.”

In addition, delegates will be able to attend field trips to experience first hand some of the revitalisation strategies that have taken place across the City of Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula and City of Greater Geelong.

“The focus will be on both rural and urban Mainstreets, so whether you are involved with a city or country retail precinct this is definitely the conference that can bring you up to date with all that’s happening,” Matthew Gould said.
