National benchmarking through market research

Local Governments can now benchmark the performance of their units against Councils throughout Australia. Called the Local Government Benchmark Database, this market research tool enables Local Governments to see how their services rank in national terms. Developed by the market research consultancy, the Centre for Local Government Research, the database is part of a suite of cutting edge market research products designed to give cost effective information to the Local Government sector.

Director, John Armitage, said that the Centre has been undertaking surveys in the Local Government sector since the late 1980s, and has grown into one of Australia’s leading Local Government research organisations. The Centre is a division of Auspoll, which is a national market research organisation.

John Armitage said the centre has carried out Local Government surveys in every state in Australia and had developed surveys and products to meet their specific needs.

“We have a vast body of experience in Local Government research,” he said.

The Centre offers a full range of market research products from standard mail survey through to integrated quantitative and qualitative research involving phone surveys and focus groups.

“We have expanded to incorporate integrated communication and consultation campaigns that are solidly based on the research,” John Armitage said.

The Centre is well equipped to meet any market research need for councils. It is a member of Market Research Quality Assurance Inc. and the Association of Market Research Organisations.
