UNE Partnerships – Powering up Local Governments’ skill base

Powering up Local Governments’ skill base

UNE Partnerships leads the field in professional and vocational training and development. It is a Registered Training Organisation offering nearly 100 qualifications in a range of areas and levels, nationally. Owned by the University of New England, one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious teaching and research universities, UNE Partnerships provides flexible workplace based teaching and learning.

Access is available to educational pathways from certificates through to graduate and postgraduate programs of UNE.

At the recent New South Wales Local Government Association Conference held in Armidale, the team from UNE Partnerships had the opportunity to discuss with delegates the topic of Commonwealth funding and how Councils can educate and train existing staff at no financial cost.

The general consensus appeared to be one of excitement among the delegates that this funding is available and has not perhaps been tapped into previously.

UNE Partnerships is working towards building a solid business partnership with Local Government, offering training and services that will allow councils to meet the challenge of restructure in the Local Government sector by powering up the skill base of staff in a variety of disciplines, in some cases at no cost to the organisation.

Delivery methods include supported distance study, workshops, inhouse training and traineeships. Clients choose the methods, or combination of methods, to suit their needs and a partnership is formed for total training and development solutions.

UNE Partnerships’ Local Government clients have included Randwick City Council, Brisbane City Council, Gold Coast City Council, Dubbo, Tamworth, Armidale, Maitland, Waverley and Woollahra Councils.

Skill building programs in a range of subject areas include business administration, management and leadership, human resource management, frontline, project and facilities management.

UNE Partnerships also specialises in industry specific courses for healthcare practice management, health, aged and community services, real estate and property management and workplace training.
