Mega skate park for Bondi Beach

In February, International guest skaters joined locals to celebrate the opening of Waverley Council’s new skate park, Bowl-A-Rama, which is located almost on the sand at Bondi Beach. Waverley Council decided to build the $800,000 skate park, one of the biggest in Sydney, after extensive consultation with skaters and the local community.

Waverley Mayor, Councillor Peter Moscatt, said Bowl-A-Rama’s unique format will allow skaters to choose the terrain they ride.

The construction of the skate park was undertaken in consultation with a stakeholder reference group made up of residents, local police and skaters. The group met regularly for over a year to finalise the design.

“It was very important to us that local skaters and young people were involved in the design process and through this consultation we have produced an excellent community facility,” Mayor Moscatt said. “We wanted to build a world class skate park for local young people that would be in keeping with its unique location on the promenade at Bondi Beach.”

Skate park designer, Chad Ford, said that the park is the perfect terrain for skaters of all styles to come together with its street course, modern park area and a deep pool.

“It is the perfect setting for skaters to provide an awe inspiring experience for spectators,” he said.
