Victorian Councils benefit from reduced transaction costs *

Victorian Councils are receiving reduced transaction rates for using Postbillpay thanks to an agreement between Australia Post and the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV). A large number of Councils in Victoria are already benefiting from the MAV’s Postbillpay agreement, which provides Councils with reduced transaction rates and service fees when using Postbillpay.

MAV is the peak body that represents Victoria’s 79 Councils providing leadership, support and assistance in achieving best practice performance.

The Postbillpay agreement is part of MAV’s innovative and practical support to Councils. “The agreement provides us with the benefits of economies of scale,” said MAV Chief Executive, Rob Spence. “By aggregating Councils together under one agreement we’re able to make it very economical for them to use Postbillpay,” He said the process is based on aggregated sector wide volumes with the smallest Councils receiving the same rate as the largest Councils.

“And the more Councils that use Postbillpay the greater the reduction will be,” he said. What this has meant for Councils is that every one of them saves whether they have 4,000 ratepayers or 50,000,” Rob Spence said. “We wanted to offer our Councils a bill payment option and believe that Postbillpay was the best around, not just in terms of cost effectiveness, but also the convenience and security it provides.”

Postbillpay currently provides three payment options: over the counter, over the phone and via the Internet as well as offering an electronic bill payment presentment service. For further information please visit www.postbillpay.com.au.
