Nillumbik’s cross organisational management program

Seventeen staff from Victoria’s Nillumbik Shire recently completed Council’s Frontline Management Program. Graduates from the program obtained a Diploma of Business after attending a six day program on business management and leadership skills provided by Proteus Education and Training.

Those who undertook the course are employed in a range of areas included engineering, communications, administration, environment, municipal law, arts and culture, youth services, IT and records. This has enabled participants to form new networks with people working in various Council departments.

The program is designed to improve management and interpersonal skills through studying different behavioural styles, as well as communicating with confidence, dealing with change in the workplace, positive leadership and management, and managing staff performance. It also provided information on contemporary recruitment options, as well as the correct procedures for interviewing and recruiting staff.

Part of the program involved participants developing individual action plans to implement in their workplace.

Suzy Ellingsen, Manager Team Development and Support, said that the staff members who participated in the program gained tangible skills that they could apply in their current roles, as well as contributing to their future career development.

For further information contact Suzy Ellingsen on (03) 9433 3111 or Scott Mitton at Proteus Education and Training on (03) 9848 4200.
