UNE Partnership’s frontline management trainee named Regional Trainee of the Year

Melanie Dowell of BEST Employment in Inverell is the winner of the Regional Trainee of the Year Award for the New England northwest region of NSW. Melanie received her award recently at the NSW Regional Training Awards gala ceremony in Tamworth.

Melanie completed a two year Frontline Management traineeship in June run through UNE Partnerships. “The awards are an amazing way of promoting the skills and achievements of students regardless of age, along with recognising the quality of our local training providers,” Melanie Dowell said.

Melanie was nominated by her trainer and assessor at UNE Partnerships, Paddy Fagan, and was required to write a submission and attend an interview with judges. As regional winner, Melanie will now continue the competition at state level having recently travelled to Sydney to attend a second interview. “I feel extremely humbled and proud to have been selected to represent the region and BEST Employment at a state level,” she said.

As a state finalist, Melanie will attend a gala dinner in September, where the State Trainee of the Year will be announced. If she wins this title she will represent NSW in Perth at the Australian Training Awards in November.

While undertaking her traineeship, Melanie was employed at BEST Employment as the Complimentary Programs Manager, which required her to manage programs in all eight BEST Employment offices in the New England and North West of NSW. Since beginning her traineeship, Melanie has received a Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management), Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, and a Diploma in Business (Frontline Management) through UNE Partnerships.

Melanie is continuing her studies with a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Human Resource Management and Community Development. She has recently been promoted to Human Resources Manager.
