Dial Before You Dig has a brand new website, which is proving to be an important and popular tool for Councils and contractors around Australia. Organisations or individuals planning on excavating an area can use the site to lodge their free Dial Before You Dig inquiry online. The Dial Before You Dig service then provides excavator operators with information on the location of underground pipes and cables.
Users simply lodge an online inquiry, then receive the information direct from the affected underground asset owners.
Dial Before You Dig’s South Australian Manager, Nigel March, said using the service not only protects Australia’s ever increasing underground asset network, but also protects the individuals working around the vicinity of these networks.
“Launched in August, the new site has a great new look and is far more informative than the original,” he said. “It is part of a current push by the Dial Before You Dig organisation to better present itself and educate the community, including Australia’s Councils, in a more effective manner.
“Safe excavation and using the service every time, no matter how small your job, are the two messages the Dial Before You Dig team aims to get across to all excavators.”
Almost 60 per cent of all Dial Before You Dig inquiries are now done online. Western Australia recently joined the national service and has had almost 70 per cent of all inquiries submitted online each month since.
“Users of the online service have come to appreciate the convenience, speed, 24 hour access and the ability to detail the exact location of their worksite on the mapping software themselves,” Nigel March said.
