ITCRA’s groundbreaking work in establishing the National ICT Skills Monitoring System – SkillsMatch has resulted, for the first time in governments now having access to real time data on the supply and demand of IT skills and other key workforce issues.
Thirty-one leading IT recruitment companies are now delivering data into the SkillsMatch system. This involves these companies providing data on open positions, salaries offered, applications received, placements made and time to fill to a central SkillsMatch database.
Government departments and Local Governments are now able to access information based on this data for up to date forecasting on IT skills demand, employment market forecasting, project costing, training and immigration. The system generates reports on more than 40 ICT labour force indicators, including the number of placements made each month; placements by industry, occupation, gender and age; suitable candidates per placement; time to fill; length of contracts; job locations; and qualifications required.
Data for the first report in the series came from 25 initial partners, covering 1,588 placements, or about 25 per cent of the national ICT recruitment market.
The Commonwealth Department of Communications, IT and the Arts and Multimedia Victoria provided the financial resources to establish SkillsMatch which was built within budget and on time. ITCRA acknowledges and thanks both Governments for their valuable support.
Senator Helen Coonan, Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts expressed her continuing support for SkillsMatch.
“ITCRA and its partners have shown great initiative in creating a national ICT skills tracking and monitoring system and implementing one of the key recommendations of the Building Australian ICT skills report,” Senator Coonan said.
She added that the detailed analysis that SkillsMatch can provide on ICT skills supply and demand issues is of great assistance to commercial and government sectors in identifying trends that may impact on the Australia ICT skills market.
