Rock to success

Do you have an interest in the dynamic world of Local Government politics? Do you work in or with a Local Government institution? Or, do you have a passion for the promotion and growth of women in Australian politics? If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, read on!

The City of Rockdale is hosting the 2008 Australian Local Government Women’s Association 55th NSW Annual Conference, from Thursday
3 April to Saturday 5 April. The conference, themed ‘Rock to Success’, will look at the many issues facing women in Local Government during an election year and provide a platform for lively debate on current issues, peer discussions and messages from inspirational guest speakers. The conference is also a great opportunity to highlight the diverse mix of people, places and cultures that the City of Rockdale has to offer, and promote it as one of Sydney’s premier conference and tourist destinations.

Both businesses and Council are set to benefit from the three day event as delegates explore the local shops and city sights. The many diverse and experienced speakers will cover a variety of subjects such as ‘Does being a woman in government have its advantages?’, ‘Effective governance in a dynamic political environment’, ‘Using the right techniques to ensure your message gets out there and is heard’, and ‘Surviving the bear pits and hunting grounds: Tactical suggestions for political success’. The conference will also include a tour of the city, a Mayoral reception and formal and informal dinners on Friday and Saturday night. Lunch and afternoon tea will also be provided.

Some of the keynote speakers include:

  • Monica Attard, one of Australia’s most respected news and current affairs journalists
  • Penny Holloway, President LGMA and General Manager of North Sydney Council
  • Associate Professor Graham Sansom, Centre for Local Government.
