Guiding Councils in public works safety

Councils are being urged to display their free copies of the National Guide to Public Works and Services Safety 2008 to communicate key health and wellbeing information to their staff and contractors.

The annually updated Guide has been sent to all local Councils and members of the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) to assist them with the management of workplace safety and best practice.

The focus is on risk management, with an easy to apply flow chart for formulating risk assessments, OHS management plans, site inductions, working in confined places, manual handling and managing public liability and environmental risks. Concern over environmental issues means environmental risk assessments are an integral part of any public works activity and the Guide offers a simple outline for creating environmental management plans focusing on assessing risks in the key areas of air, water, land and waste.

Produced by Pro-Visual Publishing in consultation with IPWEA the bright wall chart format is ideal for display in staff areas and other places of high traffic.

More than 5,600 copies have already been distributed. Additional copies are available at no cost by phoning (02) 8272 2611 or email enquiries@provisual.com.au
