Are you leading the way in creating healthy communities? If your answer is yes, then the Heart Foundation wants to hear from you.
Entries into the Heart Foundation Local Government Awards 2008 are now open and not only does your Council have the chance to receive recognition from the Heart Foundation, but you could also receive part of the $35,000 in cash awards, and a plaque.
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death and a major source of disability in Australia. People can reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease by making healthier lifestyle choices.
Local Governments that create supportive environments to promote better health and reduce the risk of chronic conditions can receive recognition through the Heart Foundation Local Government Awards.
“The awards focus on the implementation of programs that build social connections, encourage people to be physically active, smoke free and make healthy food choices,” said Wendy Keech, Heart Foundation Director Cardiovascular Health. “These highlight the impact that Local Governments are having on creating healthy communities.”
The 2008 awards program has the following five categories:
- implementation of plans
and policies to support
heart health - provision and use of
facilities to improve heart
health - programs that improve
heart health in priority
groups - programs that promote
healthy weight - programs and policies
that reduce exposure to
tobacco.
