Carbon Market Expo and Conference*

The nation’s largest corporations and government have backed Australia’s first industry hosted Carbon Market Expo and Conference. Environment Business Australia CEO, Fiona Wain, said that carbon markets were growing and government and business should be positioning themselves to maximise their opportunities and reduce costs.

“Carbon Market Expo Australasia 2008 is expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates and 100 trade exhibitors from all over Australia and the Asia Pacific region,” she said. “It is designed to match carbon market product and service providers with investors and customers such as business, government and corporations seeking to reduce or offset carbon emissions.

“The Expo will be a catalyst for Australian governments and businesses to engage with the new carbon market in a way that will benefit the environment and the economy.”

The event will be hosted by carbon market industry associations Environment Business Australia and the Asia Pacific Emissions Trading Forum, with the Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council.

Ms Wain said the Carbon Market Expo is well timed, coinciding with important legislation.

“The Australian Government released its Green Paper on the design of a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme last month, the final Garnaut Review report is scheduled for late September and the release of exposure of draft legislation on emissions trading is planned for December,” she said.

A range of businesses have signalled their involvement in the event, including energy providers, banks, superannuation funds, carbon offset providers and technology providers.

“Carbon Market Expo Australasia 2008 will help government and business get in step with solutions to the challenge of climate change,” she said.

The event will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre from October 30 to 31.
