Penrith City Council trainees win Western Sydney award

Two of Penrith City Council’s trainees have recently won Western Sydney Trainee of the Year category awards.

Penrith City Mayor Greg Davies said Council’s depth of young skilled workforce is reflected in Joshua Giblin winning the business administration category, while Loran Kearney took out the childcare category.

“Council is one of Penrith’s biggest employers and encourages the employment of trainees such as Joshua and Loran to provide a challenging addition to their studies,” Councillor Davies said. “Nominees must show achievements in career and study, personal skills and other pursuits outside the working environment.

“Council traineeships offer combined paid work experience while the trainee undertakes an accredited training program.”

Joshua is employed as a Business Administration Trainee, spending half of his time in Children’s Services and the other half in Workforce Development (human resources). Joshua has a Bachelor of Business Degree majoring in Human Resources and Industrial Relations.

Loran Kearney was also a finalist as the overall Western Sydney Trainee of the Year.

Both Joshua and Loran have secured positions with Council after completing their traineeship.

“Council’s traineeships open doors to many opportunities” Mayor Davies said. “They help prepare workers for future career development and Council strongly encourages those seeking full education to complement their paid work experience to consider applying for a Council traineeship.”
