Booklet outlines City role

A City of Gosnells publication giving the community a chance to find out how their City works and where Local Government fits into the Australian system has been a big hit. A reprint has just been produced.

The City of Gosnells is 17 kilometres southeast of the Perth CBD and has a population of more than 95,000 people.

‘How your City works for you’ explains the structure of Local Government, the City of Gosnells’ responsibilities and the services it delivers. The booklet also outlines the roles of the Mayor, the Chief Executive Officer and Councillors.

With 1,000 copies first printed in July 2008, the booklet has also been a success online, having been viewed more than 600 times.

“Many people think of roads, rubbish and rates when it comes to Local Government,” said Gosnells Mayor, Olwen Searle. “They are surprised when they realise what a wide and diverse range of services, programs and projects are provided by their council.

“This publication is designed to assist anyone who wants to get a better idea of how the City works. Generally it has by far been the most requested publication at the City’s Customer Service counter.”

A local school is now using the booklet as a student resource and Council’s Human Resources department is using it as part of employee induction.

It can be downloaded from www.gosnells.wa.gov.au
