Sunshine Coast has Queensland’s best

One of the senior managers of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council was recently awarded the Local Government Manager of the Year Award by Queensland’s Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA Queensland).

At LGMA Queensland’s recent Annual Conference in Townsville, Regional Director of Sunshine Coast’s Community Services Department, Lisbet Dean, was presented with the award for her efforts in leadership and management in her role with Council.

“I was surprised by the nomination and to be awarded such a title is a great honour,” Lisbet Dean said. “I was pleased to accept the award in recognition of all the great work done by staff of the Community Services Department.

“Since the formation of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, staff have been working tirelessly to continue delivering services to the community, while also looking at ways to integrate processes across the region.

“I am excited to be a part of building a council of which the entire community can be proud.”

CEO of LGMA Queensland, Peta Irvine, said, dramatic changes in Queensland Local Government during 2007–08 led many to question the status, roles and responsibilities of Local Government in the State.

“The 2008 LGMA Annual Conference picked up on these issues and examined the role and responsibilities of Local Government in the community and its relationship with the other spheres of government,” she said.

“The judges were impressed with the quality of work carried out by the staff of the Department with Lisbet’s leadership, and the level of engagement with the staff that has been achieved since her appointment.

“Lisbet is an excellent example of what can be achieved in Local Government with determination, dedication and leadership.”

The award is presented annually and winners receive a trophy, as well as a bursary of $4,000 towards continuing their professional development.
