Access for all

One of the Launceston City Council Recreational Planning Principles is to ensure equitable access to recreation opportunities regardless of age, gender, sexual preference, mobility or ethnicity.

Launceston Aquatic strives to achieve this with accessible design features that allow greater access to those with additional needs.

These features begin with disabled car parking spaces near the main entrance and a wheel chair access ramp leading into the facility.

Inside Launceston Aquatic there is ramp entry into the Programs Pool with handrails on both sides. This pool is also connected to a hot zone spa facility.

This pool will be used for physiotherapy and sports recovery programs. A range of programs will also be run in the pool including infant learn to swim classes, mother and baby programs and older adult programs.

Accessible change rooms are located next to the lifeguard stands and are large enough to accommodate a person in a wheel chair and a carer, while a portable hoist with a sling can be moved to any of the pool spaces to lower people into the water.
