Digital signatures have completed councils’ electronic process*

In the current economic climate, councils are looking for ways to cut costs and shorten business processes while improving staff efficiency and customer services.

To achieve this councils were searching for a technological solution that would allow staff to break the chain of printing, signing and then scanning the signed documents back into electronic form.

Digital signature technology is the last, yet significant step. Allowing councils to leverage the true benefit of their investment in the electronic document process, it enables a fully automated electronic format.

In the past three years Australian and New Zealand councils – including Townsville City Council, Marrickville Council, North Shore City Council and others – have been leading the way in this rapidly expanding international trend of centralised, standards based digital signatures implementation in Local Government.

“It is a tremendous benefit that the time and money Council saves on process implementation can be rededicated to ratepayers,” said Marrickville Council’s Manager Information Systems, Carlos Loureiro.

Tehmus Mistry from Service Development at North Shore City Council said that digital signatures technology has shortened approval times, improved Council’s workflow and boosted customer service levels.

Embedding digital signatures technology directly into a council’s mainstream business application makes it easy to digitally sign transactions, documents and records.

The creation of portable signature format allows anyone to seemingly retain and verify proof of identity, intent and document integrity without costly, complicated or propriety software.
