Infrastructure primes Mackay as the ultimate event hub
Mackay Regional Council has launched itself as a top shelf player in the events arena, thanks largely to the successful running of the Mackay Region Festival of Arts.
Held in July each year, the city comes alive with this big hearted festival as it showcases local artistic talent, visiting performers, chefs and much more.
Now in its 22nd year, the festival remains a highly anticipated and important cultural artistic event in the region.
This year’s festival certainly touched the hearts of residents and visitors alike, with headline acts like rock icon Jimmy Barnes, Debra Byrne and her Girls Girls Girls, the Robbie Williams Experience and an iconic wine and food day.
The city’s fabulous Queens Park garden location is fast becoming Mackay’s ideal entertainment venue. This year, 25,000 people gathered at the park for the G&S Engineering Wine and Food Day.
Next on Council’s itinerary is the cultural celebration, Global Grooves. To be held on 25 October, this event will be a magical, multicultural celebration catering for all age groups.
The one day festival recognises the rich and diverse cultural contributions of the Mackay region. It will see festival goers treating their taste buds to samples of international cuisines and getting involved in all that this free community event has to offer.
There is no shortage of ways to celebrate Mackay’s glorious climate, with the River Rock to Mountain Top Festival held annually in the picturesque Pioneer Valley in May.
The inaugural Coal to Coast Festival from 18–20 September will celebrate the importance the mining industry plays in the region’s economic sustainability.
This festival will include job expos, mine versus mine competitions and musical entertainment targeted towards families.
Organisers have high hopes for the fledgling event, suggesting it will become the number one provincial festival in Australia within five years.
