Tea Tree Gully – looking after man’s best friend

Tails are a-wagging in the City of Tea Tree Gully, with Council recently having opened a third dog park.

Located in metropolitan Adelaide, the City of Tea Tree Gully covers 95 square kilometres and has a population of around 100,000 people and 16,000 dogs.

The dog parks aim to provide an inclusive and integrated public space, that specifically retain their open space amenity while offering a focal point for interaction between dogs and their owners.

Loaded with features and basic obstacles specifically for dogs, such as jumps, logs and even a slide, the parks are fully fenced, giving dog owners a chance to exercise and train their pets off lead in a legal manner.

They also feature shaded areas with drinking fountains for dogs and their owners.

The parks are divided into two sections –
one for animals that are well trained and behaved and a separate area for dogs that need a little more attention.

Council’s Events Officer Elissa Graves said Tea Tree Gully’s newest dog park at Bentley Reserve was opened in July to meet much needed demand.

Living locally to the park herself, she said there has not been one instance where she has seen it empty.

“Tea Tree Gully is full of dog lovers, and the response we have to all of our dog parks has been fantastic,” Elissa Graves said.

“This newest park ensures that all areas of the municipality have a dog park in close proximity.

“The opening had a great response with over 400 people and 100 dogs in attendance.”
