Toowoomba installs second skate park

Toowoomba Regional Council in the Darling Downs region of Queensland is in the process of installing its second Skateramps Australia skate park.

Council purchased a range of skating equipment from Skateramps Australia last year to develop a park in Millmerran. With that park receiving a fantastic response from local youth, Council has now purchased a second unit, which is currently being installed in Cecil Plains.

District Manager Millmerran Service Centre, Brenda Kelly, said the town’s young people requested a skate park and Council was lucky enough to obtain funding under the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program to purchase one.

She said the new skate park will comprise a combination of different heights, humps, and jumps.

“We chose Skateramps Australia as its models are portable and the different jumps and turnpikes can be swapped between our two parks depending on how much they are used,” Brenda Kelly said.

“The equipment can be pulled apart, rearranged if necessary and stored if the area needs to be used for another purpose.

“In addition, the entire unit sits on a flat concrete slab – there is no hard or heavy concreting.

“This means if we ever did want to relocate the entire park, it would be easy enough to do so, without leaving a major impact on the previous environment.”

Managing Director of Skateramps Australia, Jim Campbell, is assisting Toowoomba with the installation of the Cecil Plains skate park and expects it to be complete by mid September.

Jim has been making skate ramps for 17 years and has shipped them all over Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Borneo and to the Christmas Islands.

He believes councils choose Skateramps because of its competitive pricing and assistance with installation.
