A Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) licence gives businesses peace of mind when they use copyright materials – knowing they’re minimising the risk of copyright infringement and doing the right thing by copyright holders.
This year, the City of Boroondara signed up for CAL’s CopyrightAccess Licence.
David Thompson, the City of Boroondara’s Manager Governance, says the CAL licence caters to their everyday use of copyright materials.
“Staff in our organisation may upload copyright protected articles or reviews onto the intranet or internal staff magazine,” he said. “It’s also common for managers to distribute magazine, newspaper or journal articles on topics of interest to their teams by email, or in hardcopy.
“The CAL licence enables us to safely undertake these activities and more. We now have the freedom to scan, save, display on our website, email internally, photocopy or fax externally produced material.
“The licence is a risk management tool, providing us with protection against copyright infringement. More broadly, we appreciate that by supporting copyright holders, we are encouraging the production of valuable works in the future.”
As well as being a licensee, the City of Boroondara joined CAL as a member, having benefited from CAL payments for the use of their own copyright material by others.
The City of Boroondara is a metropolitan council, servicing more than 165,000 people in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Council has over 850 full and part time employees.
