Moonee Valley staff awarded for five centuries of service

Moonee Valley City Council has proved to be a great place to work after long serving staff were awarded for more than five centuries of service. A total of 59 Council staff across the organisation have reached various milestones to receive a Long Serving Staff Award this year.

Moonee Valley CEO Rasiah Dev said that together, staff have clocked up more than
530 years of service, which is a testament to the working culture.

“As part of Council’s Staff Recognition Policy, each year we pay tribute to our staff who have reached ten or more years of service with Council,” he said. “The presentations acknowledge the contribution that employees have made to the organisation and community.”

He said the awards incorporate service at the former Essendon, Keilor (Brimbank) and Melbourne City Councils, as well as the Hume/Moonee Valley Regional Library Corporation.

“It is important to acknowledge those who have reached these milestones and to celebrate and reflect on the diverse ways staff contribute to the facilities, services and community support Council provides across the Municipality,” Rasiah Dev said.

Described by her colleagues as a pillar of strength and calmness, long serving staff member Leanne Thistlewaite has been with Council for 15 years. Working as a Maternal and Children Health Nurse, she has a diverse mix of clients.

“This group of clients have often been difficult to engage with due to language barriers, however, Leanne has made inroads developing trusting relationships with many of these families,” Rasiah Dev said. “Like many of the award recipients, Leanne freely shares the knowledge she has gained while working at Council with new employees, contributing to their development and Council’s positive working environment.”
