Survey uncovers how Unley Council is perceived

In April, the City of Unley south of the Adelaide CBD took part in a survey to find out what the community thinks of its performance.

The survey, which was carried out by Roy Morgan Research, is part of a broader Local Government Association Comparative Performance Measurement Survey.

Over a two week period, 400 telephone interviews were carried out with Unley residents, who were asked their opinions regarding seven core council responsibilities. These include:

  • strategic objectives
  • community consultation
  • Council services
  • quality of life
  • public access to information
  • asset/infrastructure management
  • safety and security.

This data will provide valuable information that can be used by Council to measure trends in its performance in these key areas, and to analyse community opinion and satisfaction. It will also enable Council’s performance to be compared with the average results of similar councils in Adelaide and others across South Australia.

“The most important aim of this project is to identify Council’s performance – to gauge if our services are meeting the needs of our community,” said Unley Mayor Richard Thorne.

“The only way we will find out will be if the community tells us.

“This is just another initiative of Council in engaging with our community to gain valuable feedback. The results of a similar survey last year provided important context to the completion of Council’s adopted Community Plan 2015.

“We look forward to receiving this year’s results and comparing them with the previous years to help us analyse trends and identify any changes in what our community wants.”

Residents will also be asked a number of questions regarding themselves to ensure a wide representation of community responses.
