A new premier triathlon facility in Macquarie Fields is set to put Campbelltown residents’ healthy lifestyles on track. The $500,000 Macquarie Fields Triathlon Track is jointly funded by Campbelltown City Council and the Federal Government’s Jobs Fund.
The Jobs Fund is an Australian Government initiative designed to maximise job and training opportunities in local communities.
The project features a one kilometre asphalt track, which links to the local swimming centre for triathlon competitions.
The complex will also facilitate community cycle events and be open to the general public for recreational activities.
Mayor of Campbelltown Councillor Aaron Rule said the new facility will provide additional recreational areas to improve the overall health of the community.
“One of the most prominent facilities of its kind in south west Sydney, the Macquarie Fields triathlon track will be used for both leisure and competition purposes, and will further strengthen the area as a significant sporting and recreational precinct,” the Mayor said.
“The project is also a leading example of partnerships between various spheres of Government and local sporting groups, to deliver a first class recreational facility.
“In addition, the new sporting venue will also promote healthy lifestyles among local residents and complement the existing range of sporting opportunities available in the area, which include swimming, AFL, rugby league, tennis and softball.”
