Melville’s new $4 million Kadidjiny Park was officially opened on 5 November by City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey and Federal Member for Fremantle Melissa Parke.
This world class park includes a whimsical tree with a carved ‘face’; interactive musical instruments; embankment slides; an undulating playscape; sand play equipment; barbeques; boardwalks; a wetland area; an amphitheatre style seating area; exercise equipment; public artwork and walking paths.
Mayor Russell Aubrey believes the park will become an all time favourite among children.
“Kadidjiny is a Noongar word meaning ‘learning’ and this is the perfect name because the park provides plenty of fun learning opportunities and it’s also the old Melville Primary School site,” he said.
Federal Member for Fremantle Melissa Parke that this beautiful and innovative park will be a focus point for the local and wider community for many years to come.
“Neighbourhood building facilities like this one work to bring people together, and to foster healthy outdoor activity for people of all ages,” she said.
“I congratulate the City of Melville on this fantastic achievement and look forward to a walk in the park myself.”
The Australian Federal Government provided $2.686 million for the project from its $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, with the City of Melville contributing approximately $1.4 million towards the project.
