Move over Google Maps – SA Council Maps is here

The City of Unley is one of 30 metropolitan and regional South Australian Councils that have collaborated to launch the SA Council Maps website.

The site draws on Google Maps – a website that enables the global community to locate properties and find services close to them.

However, SA Council Maps goes one better by offering access to local council information.

The website lists details, such as when waste is collected, locations of the nearest libraries, schools, parks and playgrounds, what planning regulations are in effect, details for the Council Ward and Elected Members, directions via public transport or by vehicle, locations of local facilities and what properties are for sale in the area.

Other functions include the ability to launch into other web sites, such as Google Maps, Property Assist, Google Street View, Walk Score and the National Public Toilet Map to find out more information on a locality.

Funded by the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGASA), the site was developed by representatives from 15 metropolitan and regional councils, with input from various South Australian Government agencies.

More than 50 per cent of South Australian councils have included their Council mapping information, following a successful grant application to the Local Government Research and Development Scheme.
