Unley wins silver award in the 50:50 vision gender equity program

The City of Unley is the first and only Council in Australia to be announced as the Silver Award winner of the 50:50 Vision – Councils for Gender Equity Program offered by the Australian Local Government Women’s Association and organised by the Australian Centre for Excellence for Local Government.

The 50:50 Vision – Councils for Gender Equity Program is the first national accreditation and awards program which encourages councils across Australia to address gender equity issues within their organisations and among elected members.

The program has been designed to be accessed by all councils, regardless of their size, location and progress on gender equity.

Acting Chief Executive Office Christine Umapathysivam said the City of Unley is unequivocally committed to the attraction, development and retention of women within Council.

“We have introduced a number of initiatives across the organisation that recognise and support the critical role that women undertake in the delivery of services to the Unley Community.”

“We have further developed initiatives that achieved a bronze award last year and I’m extremely proud of the work accomplished to date and the accreditation Unley achieved in the following areas of;

  • commitment and leadership
  • nomination and recruitment
  • work and family balance

Being the first and only Council in Australia to win a Silver Award is an amazing coup and an achievement that I am extremely proud of.”

In addition the City of Unley’s outgoing Chief Executive Officer Ray Pincombe has been invited to sit on the 50:50 Vision National Steering Committee.
