Mackay website will link drivers together to create carpooling relationship

Mackay Regional Council employees Shane Green and Lyneale Thrupp enjoy carpooling to and from work together.

Mackay Regional Council is set to launch an online carpooling website that residents can register on and take advantage of completely free of charge.

Community Services and Facilities Portfolio Councillor Karen May said the Mackay Region Carpool is purely a free online service that links people who want to carpool.

“By being a carpooler, you will gain benefits such as saving money on travel costs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and also help to reduce traffic congestion around the city.” she said.

If you have lots of questions about the process don’t panic â€“ the website has a long list of FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) to ensure you are fully equipped with all the information you need to know.

This sustainable initiative is supported by Mackay Regional Council and Ergon Energy.
