Maroondah will soon be home to Victoria’s first dry-diving facility, with designs for the $46.5million Ringwood District Aquatic and Leisure Centre now complete.
The Maroondah City Council and project architects Peddle Thorp recently developed detailed designs of the new facility.
Maroondah CEO Frank Dixon said the state-of-the-art facility will be a major asset for the community, as well as one of the best aquatic and leisure facilities in the state.
"Twin beams will separate the FINA standard 50 metre pool and diving pool, meaning the pool can be separated into a variety of different water spaces for lap swimming, swimming carnivals, club training and competition, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming and other activities," he said.
"The diving facilities, the second in the state built to FINA standards, include a 10 metre diving tower. The inclusion of Victoria’s first dry diving training space means clubs can establish a more effective training routine, and provide divers, from beginner to elite levels, with the opportunity to perfect their technique in a more controlled environment.
"Ringwood Diving Club divers have already achieved great things on an international stage, with four members representing Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. There are also a number of former club members who are in the running for a place at the 2012 London Olympics," Mr Dixon said.
"With this level of talent coming through the local club, it is exciting to think what they will be able to achieve when it has access to state-of-the-art training facilities at the new Ringwood District Aquatic and Leisure Centre," Mr Dixon said.
Other aquatic elements of the facility include a warm water pool, a dedicated learn to swim pool, a play pool with beach entry and splash play. The dry leisure facilities, which overlook the pool deck, will also be a highlight of the new facility.
