Donations for bushfire victims

Parramatta Lord Mayor Councillor John Chedid has donated $17,000 to be shared between Lithgow City Council and Blue Mountains City Council, areas heavily impacted by bushfires in October last year.

Councillor Chedid, the Lady Mayoress Monty Chedid and Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Paul Garrard presented the cheques during a special visit to the region.

Cr Chedid said he was proud of the community’s response to Council’s fundraising efforts.

“I hope our donation helps our neighbours over the mountains rebuild after the devastation of the recent bushfires.

“I also hope our visit reminds people that the Blue Mountains are only a short drive or train ride from Parramatta.”

Mayor of Lithgow Councillor Maree Statham said she was overjoyed with the donation and was humbled by the generous support from the wider community.

“We were absolutely delighted to receive the news about a donation made by the Lord Mayor and the people of Parramatta, this act of kindness will be a great benefit to those residents whose homes and properties were destroyed or damaged by the fire.”

Blue Mountains Mayor Councillor Mark Greenhill received the donation on behalf of his community.

“The donation from the community of Parramatta is yet another example of the support and generosity we have received from our neighbouring communities.
“This donation means a lot to our fire–affected residents as they walk the long road to recovery.

“Ongoing donations to the Blue Mountains Bushfire Mayoral Relief Fund, such as this donation from the community of Parramatta, enable us to provide additional financial assistance to residents as they rebuild their homes and lives.”

In the past Parramatta Council has raised money for Queensland flood relief bushfire victims in Warrumbungle.
