A popular football oval in the Wyong Shire Council area will re-open in time for the soccer season after a major upgrade.
The Entrance District Sporting and Community Centre (EDSACC) North Oval, home of the Killarney District Soccer Club, has been out of action since November last year while Wyong Shire Council improved the drainage system.
The work was undertaken in partnership with Central Coast Football and Killarney District Soccer Club.
President of Killarney District Football Club, Matt Gale, said he is relieved the project will be finished in time for the start of the season.
“This is great news for Central Coast soccer players who are going to notice a big improvement to the surface quality.”
Wyong Shire Council’s Manager of Open Space and Recreation, Brett Sherar, said the drainage work would see the field ready for play and training much sooner after rain.
“The new drainage will see water quickly disappear from the surface of the field during wet weather and enable the field to dry out faster after rain.”
Central Coast Football Operations Manager, Sally McGarn, said they are proud to partner with Council on this project.
“The drainage upgrades at EDSACC North will not only benefit Killarney Soccer’s 900 members, but the whole football community by providing an improved recovery from wet weather.”
The new look oval will also benefit other sporting user groups including cricketers and local schools.
The drainage works complement the upgrade done to EDSACC South Oval in 2012 and will allow the area to attract major events that need more than two or three full sized fields.
The fields will be open for play this month.
