Following the push to establish a State Emergency Service (SES) group in Jimboomba’s southwest, Logan City Council has funded and completed a new $170,000 facility.
Logan City Mayor Pam Parker said the SES group’s new home would provide a major boost to disaster preparedness and strengthen the city’s response capability, removing the need to scramble teams from stations up to 20 minutes away.
“Now, the community has a group to call their own and provide the assistance needed in times of disaster.
“I would like to commend the volunteers who operate the group and wish them the very best for the year ahead.”
Councillor Trevina Schwarz thanked the community members who had already volunteered at the group, saying their efforts were already being felt in the area.
“Just having an SES group in town is a huge boost to our peace of mind.
“It will still be up to residents and landholders to make sure they take all the right steps to prepare for floods, fires and storms, but having a fully-fledged group available will help many residents rest a little easier tonight.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in delivering this project – I know it hasn’t been without concern and I thank the community for talking with Council to work through the issues.”
The site is next to an existing Council facility, and is easily accessible in times of flood, fire, or other emergency.
Additionally the State Government has contributed a new boat and vehicle to Jimboomba SES.
