Tracking roll out

Mackay Regional Council (MRC) has recently installed 280 GPS tracking devices across its fleet of light vehicles.

The contract, won late last year through a competitive tender by BIGmate, makes Mackay Regional Council Australia’s largest council user of
BIGmate’s GPS fleet and asset management services.

The technology is expected to have a dramatic effect on productivity.

The Mackay Regional Council has for the past seven years successfully utilised 45 BIGmate devices to monitor their trucks and plants.

“Mackay Regional Council will straight away see benefits through more efficient fleet deployment and utilisation, geofencing, the scheduling of vehicle servicing and, most importantly, driver and personnel safety,” said BIGmate Managing Director Mark Shield.

The MINImate GPS units automatically reports data collected from road maintenance vehicles to a spreadsheet assessable at council.

It collects information such as weather conditions and map location, and gives each road a score based on the severity of its defects, replacing hard copy records and manual data entry.

MRC is one of more than 30 councils across Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australian and Western Australian using BIGmate tech to monitor vehicles, equipment and fleet.

Other councils using the technoloy include Narrabri Shire Council, Central Goldfields Shire Council, and Shellharbour City Council.

“The Council Edition MINImate was developed in direct consultation with our council clients and provides the specific functionality they require to work smarter and better,” says Mr Shield.

“It’s tailored for the efficient delivery of municipal services like road management, lawn mowing, rubbish removal and driver monitoring functionality.”
