Winter sleep out a success

City of Ryde Mayor Councillor Roy Maggio was joined by a committed number of residents who participated in the Mayor’s Winter Sleepout on Saturday 19 July as part of the Mayor’s fundraising effort for Australia’s homeless.

The fundraising event was part of Mission Australia’s “Winter Sleepout Appeal”.

The team raised almost $3,000 through their efforts, bringing the total raised by Mission Australia to almost $70,000 to date.

Mayor Maggio was grateful to the members of the community that participated and made donations.

“For one night we experienced what it is like for more than 100,000 Australians who are homeless.

“Without a roof over your head and a hot meal I can imagine this must be a cold and lonely way to live.

“Your donations will prevent people from spending a cold winter’s night sleeping on the City’s streets.

“It is courage and hope that keeps them alive”.

The Mayor would like to express his thanks to the Salvation Army, The Epping Eastwood Lions Club, the Gladesville Firies and the Meadowbank Scout group for their support of this event
