Coo-ee March in Hobart

In the week leading up to ANZAC Day, Local Government Focus will be highlighting some of the events local governments are hosting to commemorate the ANZAC Centenary.

All members of the public will be encouraged to participate in a Centenary of ANZAC event through the Coo-ee March as part of the commemorations in the City of Hobart.

The march will commence after the main commemorations at the Cenotaph and will progress to Waterman’s Dock in Sullivan’s Cove.

At the dock, marchers will throw a poppy into the water in memory of the nearly 2,500 Tasmanians who left for World War One and never returned.

The Chairman of the RSL (Tasmania) Hobart ANZAC Day Commemorative Committee, Colonel Michael Romalis said community participation is the focus this year.

“While the Main Parade is a tribute to veterans and their families, the Coo-ee March is something that everyone can be a part of.”

The annual Hobart Parade, organised by the RSL (Tasmania) Hobart ANZAC Day Commemorative Committee, will feature many different contingents forming up in Macquarie Street.

More than 1000 people will march in the Parade including, 300 sailors from HMAS Canberra; 12th/40th Battalion, Royal Tasmanian Regiment marching with their colours and Gallipoli battle honours; visiting Timor Leste veterans and an Army Bushmaster protected mobility vehicle.
