Hornsby Shire Council is currently installing new lighting at Hornsby’s Mark Taylor Oval that will bring the sportsground up to the current Australian standard.
Hornsby Shire Mayor Steve Russell said the upgrade will allow both training and competition to take place in a much safer way.
“However, it will also benefit nearby residents as the new poles will be 25 metres tall so the light can be directed onto the sportsground more vertically, reducing both glare and light spill.”
In consideration of neighbours the lights will be turned off every night by 10pm and no matches will be allowed on Sunday evenings.
“As part of these works Council will also install 15 new pedestrian lights around the oval footpath to improve safety for other park users during the evening.”
