Upgrades to local halls in Baw Baw Shire have now been completed as part of funding received from the State Government’s ‘Putting Locals First – Improved Local Infrastructure’ fund in 2014.
The funding of $128,000 was provided to undertake upgrades to halls in Hill End, Jindivick, Neerim South, Poowong East, Rokeby, Shady Creek, Tetoora Road, Thorpdale, Trafalgar and Yarragon.
The upgrades were a joint venture between the local community Hall Management Committees, Baw Baw Shire Council and the State Government.
Works focused on upgrades to kitchen and bathroom amenities in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.
Other areas of need identified by the Committees of Management were also included in the projects.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Debbie Brown was pleased that this funding has allowed communities to be strengthened across the shire.
“Community halls are a fundamental aspect of our communities that are utilised for a range of different activities by our residents.
“It was vital that these community halls had the upgrades needed to ensure their integrity for the future.
“These upgrades will not only meet the needs of the current users but can encourage more community members to make use of the great facilities available creating more opportunities for people to get involved with their community.”
Jindivick Hall Committee Secretary Michele Baker said the upgrades to the hall will result in increased usage and will encourage more community participation in events.
“The improved areas will also encourage increased hiring of the hall which is vital to help support the on-going maintenance and improvements of the facility that rely heavily on income generated from bookings.”
