Benalla Rural City is seeking members for a group that will help the council identify and respond to issues around access and inclusion for people of all ages and abilities.
Members of the Accessibility Reference Group will ideally have experience of disability, the disability sector or the carer’s role, be part of established networks and groups in the community and be able to regularly attend and participate in meetings as scheduled (initially on a monthly basis).
“We are committed to improving access and inclusion across Benalla Rural City,” said Mayor Councillor Justin King.
“Approximately 20 percent of the Australian population live with a disability and in Benalla Rural City that equates to nearly 3000 people.
“With more than half of all people over the age of 50 having some form of sight, hearing or mobility impairment, it is vital that the principles of access and inclusion are incorporated into all of our day to day activities.
“Forming a Reference Group is an important step forward that follows the Council’s adoption of the Community Access and Inclusion Plan which will be officially launched to the community in December.”
