Power to the People Conference*

Australia’s only national community engagement conference. Community engagement is the new ‘must have’ local government skill.

The 2016 Power to the People Conference, convened by the Municipal Association of Victoria and the Bank of I.D.E.A.S, will be held on Wednesday September 14 and Thursday September 15. This conference is a unique opportunity to learn and share ideas and the knowledge, skills, tools and a mindset necessary for the revolution in community development practice and philosophy. This year’s event features:

  • inspiring speakers providing essential knowledge on citizens as co-designers and co-producers
  • stimulating case studies
  • five great inclusive learning workshops to choose from
  • the Gala Dinner

Highlight topics include:

  • Helping is not necessarily helpful, when the focus is on ‘what is wrong, rather than what is strong’; Cormac Russell, Managing Director, Nurture
  • Getting residents to fall back in love with their communities; Peter Kenyon, Director, Bank of I.D.E.A.S
  • A creative way to achieve real community engagement in decision-making – the use of citizen juries
  • Speed sharing: an opportunity to discover five community engagement methodologies
  • Developing and engaging millennials ­ harnessing the power of generation Y; Rhys Williams, Chief Executive, The Makers, Mandurah, Western Australia
  • Case studies from across Australia focussing on youth engagement and entrepreneurship
