Creating a healthier workplace

Staff members at the City of Swan in Western Australia enjoy a suite of wellbeing initiatives.

Over the past 12 months more than 140 City of Swan staff members have taken part in leadership training activities, to increase and expand their leadership skills and knowledge.

One of those activities was the Leadership Development Program, a four-day course that focused on up-skilling and expanding the skills of new and current workplace leaders.

More than 30 staff members participated in the program, with more than half receiving qualifications.

These opportunities are part of the City of Swan’s commitment to creating a great place to work, and offering its employees real careers, real impact and real rewards.

This includes providing staff with training and professional development to grow their leadership potential, and the opportunity to gain professional qualifications.

The City also offers a number of initiatives that promote career progression and work life balance, including: Defence Force leave; study assistance programs; the ability to earn recognised qualifications (Certificate IV in Business and Diploma in Project Management); additional paid parental leave; flexible working arrangements; nine day fortnights and work from home options.

The City also partners with Apprenticeships Australia to offer an Indigenous Horticulture Traineeship, which provides on the job training, a nationally recognised qualification in horticulture, first aid qualifications and steps towards a permanent career.

Staff members at the City also have access to an expansive health and wellbeing program, which offers a variety of initiatives to help support a healthy mind, body and lifestyle.

The City has also been awarded a gold medal by Healthier Workplace WA (HWWA) for its leading wellbeing practices.
