“Moving Forward”

In keeping pace with the change in the population and the influence of social media Council has recently devleoped its Facebook page facebook.com/mountremarkable, maintains an up to date website and publishes a monthly newsletter.  The Council is currently going through a rebranding, “Remarkable Experience” with a new logo which depicts the region, is easily identifiable with the District and visually appealing.  The communities are friendly and resilient and together with Council they tackle the challenges of living in rural regions with enthusiam and initiatives that work towards retaining its population, services and youth and welcomes investors, new entrepreuners and visitors to the region.

Some colaborative initiatives Council and our communities have achieved recently include Stage One of the the Booleroo Centre Main Street Upgrade including a new playground, the Port Germein Foreshore redevelopment, the Wilmington Main Street Upgrade and we are currently working towards upgrading the Wirrabara Playground to incorporate Nature Play, upgrading of recreational fishing facilites at Port Germein and Weeroona Island with the installation of Fish Cleaning Shelters and a new boat launching faciltiy.  Council is also maintaining, improving signage and upgrading our walking and cycling trails.

The Melrose Caravan Park located on the Willochra Creek nestled amongst large red gums and spectacular scenery at the foot of Mount Remarkable is owned and operated by Council and offers a traditional camping holiday with park services provided.  Its close proximity and easy access to national parks and gorges, bike and walking trails the park is great for the whole family and only 300kms north of Adelaide.  Council invests in the upgrade and promotion of the park to cater for the growing tourism to the District.
