LandCruiser 70 Series ticks the boxes for government*

When you’re in local government, the selection process for choosing the right fleet vehicles can be a challenge. As well as meeting operational requirements, there’s a long list of safety and environmental standards to adhere to. It’s about keeping the triple bottom line in mind.

Toyota Fleet specialises in advising and supplying quality vehicles to Australian organisations and government, with a wide range of vehicles, from sedans to vans to work utes. Today, we’re reviewing a vehicle ideal for departments that need an outdoor workhorse, the updated LandCruiser 70 Series.

The improved LandCruiser 70 series is now even more indestructible. It comes with a raft of new upgrades, inspired by Toyota Australia’s engineers putting it to the test, pushing it for over 100,000km in the harshest conditions around the country. As a result, LandCruiser 70 boasts enhanced performance, along with improved safety and environmental features designed to meet government fleet requirements.

There’s no denying the 4.5 litre V8 turbo-diesel packs a punch. But don’t let its power fool you, all LandCruiser 70 variants now have revised gearing that helps improve fuel economy, compared to the current model1. It’s also fitted with new piezo injectors for better response at low engine speeds.

When it comes to the exterior, on the single-cab models the frame is built tougher, with upgraded side rails to reduce vibration, which improves handling and stability. Suspension has also been retuned to facilitate these changes.

The single cab variant is designed to attract a maximum 5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating, the long list of safety features is impressive. Starting with the addition of driver’s knee and curtain shield airbags, bringing the total up to five on the single-cab model. And for a solid stance, the whole range includes Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control to enhance your grip on the road.

To help prevent accidents, the LandCruiser 70 range also comes with Brake Assist. This feature detects when a driver brakes heavily in an emergency, and applies additional braking to help them stop sooner. And for added reassurance, Electronic Brake-force Distribution spreads the braking force. This is particularly important when you’re carrying heavy loads. Speaking of loads, LandCruiser 70 series comes with a towing capacity of up to 3,500kg (braked).

For ongoing efficiency, the entire LandCruiser 70 series range boasts improved fuel consumption – by up to 1.2 litres per 100km and 32g/km CO21. Taller 2nd and 5th gear ratios also enhance fuel economy, enabling lower engine RPM and relaxed driving on a highway.

With enhanced safety features, the improved LandCruiser 70 ticks all the boxes for local government fleets.
