The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) has appointed a new interim President after former President Councillor Bill McArthur was not re-elected at the recent Victorian local government elections.
Councillor Coral Ross of Boroondara City Council has been appointed interim President until March 2017, when the current Board term expires.
Cr Ross has served as a councillor at Boroondara since 2002 and is currently President of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA). She said she felt honoured to be selected to take on the interim leadership role at the MAV.
“I am passionate about local government. To me it’s the most important level of government as it positively impacts the day-to-day lives of our communities,” Cr Ross said.
“The Presidency is an important and influential leadership position to represent and advocate the collective voice of local government.
“I look forward to advancing priority sector issues with other levels of government.
“I’m particularly delighted to take on this role at a time when Victorian local government now has the highest percentage of women councillors in the country.”
New general elections will be conducted in March for the 12 regional MAV Board positions, as well as the President, each of which are elected for two-year terms.
The current MAV Chief Executive Officer, Rob Spence, is also due to step down at the end of the year after 20 years in the role.
