New scholarship to support professional development of local government practitioners*

The University of Technology Sydney Centre for Local Government (UTS:CLG) has launched a new scholarship designed to support local government professionals seeking to broaden their knowledge and skills through postgraduate study.

Each recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship over the course of their studies, and there are no constraints on how recipients choose to use their scholarship money. The scholarship will be awarded on merit, based on a formal application process.

The Master of Local Government course is available in flexible block mode and online delivery, and allows students to opt for either part-time or full-time study.

UTS:CLG Director Professor Roberta Ryan said of the new scholarship: “The local government sector is going through substantial change, and we know that many practitioners are looking to expand their knowledge through professional development. We are excited to launch a new scholarship aimed at supporting local government professionals ready to upskill and take the next step in their career.

“We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate initiative in their professional life and a motivation to succeed in postgraduate studies. Our students come from a wide variety of roles in the local government sector so there isn’t a specific background we are looking for. The scholarship is very flexible, so recipients can choose to spend it on anything they require. For example we have many students from across Australia, so the funding can help with travel costs to Sydney.”
