World-class skate park unveiled

The Shire of Esperance in Western Australia has officially launched a beachside skate park that measure’s up with the world’s best.

The official launch of the Esperance Skate Park in December drew professional skaters from around the country.

The site is a unique, iconic, multi-purpose and multi-generational facility that has been built to complement the existing foreshore development and the waterfront recreational precincts.

The Skate Park is an optimum social hub on the beach for youth and the broader community of Esperance.

The Skate Park was designed and constructed by Convic who are well recognised for their unique approach and commitment to innovation and have created some of the world’s best skate parks and iconic action sports facilities.

There was extensive community consultation and workshops held during 2015 with local stakeholders including many young skate park users attending and contributing positively towards the plans for the skate park and surrounding areas.

The consultation assisted Council to understand the needs and wants of current skate park users, building the type of park that would satisfy a larger user group and finding the best location for the facility.

The skate park was open for use on 13 October 2016 and the official opening event ‘Edge of the Bay’ was held on 3-4 December, which included workshops, demonstrations, competitions, live music and food vendors.
