Life membership awarded

The National President of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) Councillor Coral Ross was awarded a Life Membership by the Victorian Branch at their Annual General Meeting on 31 May, held at the Melbourne Town Hall.

The award was given in recognition of distinguished service and leadership as President and long serving committee member of the ALGWA, Victorian Branch.

The certificate citation noted Cr Ross’s: “dedication and high ideals have been an inspiration for many women and all who serve in Local Government”.

ALGWA Victorian Branch President Helen Coleman bestowed the award enumerating Cr Ross’s years of service of both state and national levels of the Association beginning in 2005.

Currently the Victorian Branch Metro Representative, she also served as National Vice President from 2012 and President from 2015. She was recently re-elected for a second term as National President.

It was a unanimous decision to award to Cr Ross a Life Membership of the ALGWA. She was applauded for the enormous amount of time and effort given to help run the organization; also acknowledged was her exceptional leadership and demonstrated significant abilities in the field of strategic planning.

The 2017 ALGWA Bursary Award, supporting tertiary education for women working in Local Government was presented at the event. This year’s winner was Michelle Richards, Fire Recovery Co-ordinator, Moorabool Shire Council.

President Helen Coleman said, “With only 12 women CEOs out of 79 councils in Victoria, ALGWA Vic is honoured to support and encourage women who work in local government like Michelle, to reach their full potential in their careers”.
