Colourful electricity boxes in Fraser Coast Regional Council are spruiking local history – including the region’s famed Mary Poppins connection.
A futuristic rendering of Mary Poppins is part of a set of “robot” characters that are adorning electricity boxes throughout the Maryborough CBD.
The characters are part of a local history storytelling trail.
Councillor Paul Truscott, who holds the Innovation, Aviation and Communications Portfolio, said the robots are the brainchild of local signage company Decal Central.
“They transformed an electrical junction box in front of their shop into a robot and they are now spreading and joining the Maryborough
Story Trail,” Cr Truscott said.
“Each of the 10 new robots is a playful take on historical characters of Maryborough, brought to life in a quirky way.
“Each robot will have its own personality and story to tell – and if you look closely, you can see the cogs and wheels that drive them.”
Councillor Truscott plans to fund more robots next year as part of his discretionary fund.
Maryborough recently hosted the annual Mary Poppins festival, which celebrates the life of author P.L. Travers, who was born in the region.
