City of Canada Bay and City of Parramatta are partnering to build a picturesque, nine-kilometre walking and cycling trail that will link Rhodes, Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park.
The network of world-class walking, running and cycling paths around Homebush Bay will be realised thanks to a partnership between the two councils, the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, and Roads and Maritime Services.
Like famous outdoor facilities, Sydney’s Bondi to Coogee and High Line in New York, the Homebush Bay Circuit will provide visitors with water views and information on sites of significance along with local flora and fauna, attracting both local residents and tourists alike.
“With a growing number of residents living around Homebush Bay, the project will provide the perfect recreational outlet and open outdoor space for all ages both now and into the future,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor Helen McCaffrey.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority Chief Executive Officer Charles Moore said the Park’s involvement in the project was a natural fit.
“The development of this link will provide easy access to the Sydney Olympic Park precinct and the significant opportunities for health and fitness we offer.
Along with the health and fitness benefits, City of Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick said the project will benefit the region socially and economically by better linking Sydney Olympic Park to Parramatta Park, connecting communities between the circuit and enabling visitors to enjoy the many cafes, restaurants and shops just moments away.
The State Government, under the Roads and Maritime Services 2016/17 Active Transport program, has provided funding for a way-finding strategy and master plan to kick-start the exciting project.
The master plan and way-finding strategy will provide a comprehensive guide to future development of the circuit.
