Mosman Council, New South Wales, has completed a major overhaul of its historic Balmoral Promenade following extensive input from architects and structural engineers to ensure the project was in keeping with the heritage significance of the seawall.
The iconic promenade reopened at the end of November after extensive refurbishment works, which began in May, were completed on schedule and within budget.
Director of Environment and Planning, Craig Covich, said, “The works will remain in place for the next 50 years and because of their significance it was considered important the project was not rushed to ensure high quality standards were maintained.
“Council has received very positive feedback about the project since the promenade reopened with residents and visitors alike commenting that the high standard and quality of the works has shown it was worth the wait.”
The works were needed to improve the safety and amenity of the ageing walkway after cavities were found underneath the paving.
The footpath design was settled on with input from the Visual Amenity Community Consultative Committee, architects and structural engineers.
Further works are planned around the famous Balmoral Rotunda while additional concrete seating is also being installed south of Balmoral Baths.
